Captain John Mullan’s Miners’ and Travelers’ Guide to Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado (1865) was a practical handbook for emigrants, miners, and travelers heading into the rapidly developing American West. Drawing on Mullan’s extensive experience surveying and building the Mullan Road, it provided information on routes, distances, geography, resources, settlements, and transportation to help travelers navigate the western territories.
